Janet Doolin, J.D., AuthorJanet has over 25 years experience in nonprofit and foundation work and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar. She started her career as a trust officer and also served as an estate planning attorney with MassMutual Financial Services in Massachusetts. She currently serves on the faculty for Regis University in Denver, Colorado and Indiana University’s, Center on Philanthropy, Indianapolis, Indiana.Janet specializes in planned giving and endowment program development, assisting clients in a variety of capital campaigns/leadership gift and endowment campaigns. She has served on the National Board of Gift Planning Consultants and is published in national publications, including Planned Giving Today and Planned Giving Mentor. Endowment 101 - A Handbook for Staff and Board Members, is Janet’s comprehensive blueprint for nonprofits and foundations on endowment development from start-up to mega-endowment. She is a frequent speaker on the circuit, both nationally and locally, and enjoys sharing with staff, board, and donors - the power of philanthropy.
Karen ThorneAs an associate with Doolin Consulting, Karen Thorne has over 30 years experience in non-profit management, development, marketing and community relations. She has held the position of executive director for for two large Colorado foundations – the Lake Dillon Foundation for the Performing Arts and the Douglas County Educational Foundation. She has worked as a consultant to nonprofit organizations to conduct community needs assessments, develop strategic plans, establish giving and grant guidelines and create marketing and development campaigns. She is currently responsible for lifelong learning program development through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Denver. "When we work with nonprofit and foundation clients, we often come into situations where there is confusion, complacency, and even fear expressed by board members and/or staff over the organization's future.
